Discover how YoloCam S3 ePTZ works. Learn how electronic pan, tilt, and zoom let you create multiple camera angles from one 4K image.
What Is ePTZ?
You may already know about PTZ cameras. PTZ stands for Pan, Tilt, and Zoom, and these cameras can physically move to change the direction and framing of a shot.
But what if you want to change the framing without moving the camera?
That is where ePTZ, or Electronic Pan, Tilt, and Zoom, comes in.
Unlike a traditional PTZ camera, ePTZ does not physically move the camera. Instead, it uses a high-resolution image from the camera sensor and allows you to adjust the framing digitally.
With the YoloCam S3, you can use this approach to create different views from one camera. For example, you can select a specific area of the image and zoom into it. In other words, ePTZ works much like choosing a region of interest (ROI) within the original frame.
As a result, you can create a more flexible camera setup without adding multiple physical cameras.
How Does ePTZ Work on the YoloCam S3?
The YoloCam S3 has a 4K sensor and can output a 1080p image for webcam use.
Because the sensor captures more pixels than the final 1080p output, you have extra image data to work with when cropping the frame.
With ePTZ, you are not limited to the center of the image. The selected area can be moved to different parts of the frame, while the zoom level can be adjusted as needed.
For instance, you could create a wide shot of the entire scene, a medium shot of the presenter, and a close-up of a specific object.
All three views can come from the same camera. Therefore, you can change the composition without physically moving the YoloCam S3.

Create Multiple Shots From One Camera
The YoloCam S3 gives you more control than a basic digital zoom.
Normally, zooming into a webcam image means focusing on a specific part of the existing frame. With ePTZ, however, you also have more freedom to reposition the selected area.
First, select the part of the image you want to use. Then, adjust the zoom level until you get the framing you need.

Imagine that you are presenting something at your desk. You could start with a wide shot of your entire setup, switch to a closer shot of yourself, and then create a close-up of an object you are holding.
All of these views can come from the same camera. As a result, a single YoloCam S3 can give your production several different perspectives.
Why Is This Useful?
ePTZ can make a single-camera setup feel much more dynamic.
Instead of moving the camera every time you want a new composition, you can create several views and switch between them. This is especially useful when the camera needs to remain in one fixed position.
For instance, ePTZ can be useful for:
- Livestreams
- Presentations
- Tutorials
- Video calls
- Online teaching
A setup like this gives you more flexibility without adding another physical camera.
4K Sensor and 1080p Output
The YoloCam S3 uses a 4K sensor while providing a 1080p output for webcam use.
This difference gives you additional room for cropping. In simple terms, a larger source image gives you more pixels to work with when creating a smaller output frame.
For example, a portion of the 4K image can be selected and used to create a 1080p frame. This allows you to zoom into the image while maintaining good image quality.
However, there is a limit.
If you crop too far into the original image, the software needs to scale the picture more aggressively. Consequently, there may be some loss of detail or sharpness.
For the best results, avoid using an extreme digital zoom. Instead, use a reasonable crop that keeps enough of the original image visible.
Save Your Favorite ePTZ Views as Presets
Another useful feature is the ability to save your favorite ePTZ views as presets.
Once you find a framing you like, you can save it for later use. This means you do not have to recreate the same crop every time you want to use it.
For example:
Preset A: Wide shot
Preset B: Presenter shot
Preset C: Close-up shot

After saving these views, you have several camera angles ready to use.
Rather than adjusting the crop from scratch, simply load the preset you want. As a result, switching between different compositions becomes much faster during a livestream or presentation.
Control ePTZ With Keyboard Shortcuts
The YoloCam S3 also supports keyboard shortcuts for presets.
Different keys can be assigned to your saved views, making it easy to switch between a wide shot and a close-up without manually adjusting the framing.

This can be particularly useful when you need to change your shot during a livestream. In addition, keyboard shortcuts make the camera easier to control while you are presenting.
Instead of reaching for the camera or stopping your presentation, you can change the shot directly from your computer.
ePTZ Is More Than Just Digital Zoom
At first, ePTZ may sound like another name for digital zoom.
However, the main advantage is framing flexibility.
Imagine that your camera needs to stay in one fixed position. Perhaps your monitor takes up most of your desk, or maybe there is simply no convenient place to move the camera.
In that situation, ePTZ gives you another option.
Rather than moving the physical camera, you can crop the image and adjust the position of the frame. This allows you to create a cleaner composition without changing the camera position.
Improve Your Webcam Setup Without Moving the Camera
This can be especially useful for desktop setups.
For example, your camera may need to sit in a particular position, but that position could leave too much headroom in the shot. Moving the camera might solve the framing problem, but it could also make your setup less convenient.
With ePTZ, you can simply crop the image instead.
Remove some of the extra space and move the frame to achieve the composition you want. Meanwhile, the camera itself stays exactly where it is.
As a result, the YoloCam S3 gives you more control over your webcam framing without requiring a larger or more complicated setup.
ePTZ vs. Traditional PTZ
So, what is the difference between PTZ and ePTZ?
| Feature | PTZ | ePTZ |
|---|---|---|
| Pan | Physical camera movement | Digital framing |
| Tilt | Physical camera movement | Digital framing |
| Zoom | Optical or digital zoom | Digital crop |
| Camera movement | Yes | No |
| Multiple framing options | Yes | Yes |
| Requires motors | Usually | No |
| Best for | Remote camera control | Flexible framing from a fixed camera |
Traditional PTZ cameras are useful when you need to physically change the camera’s viewing direction. For example, you can remotely pan across a room, tilt the camera up or down, and zoom in on a subject.
ePTZ takes a different approach. Without moving the camera, it works within the existing image and uses the high-resolution sensor to create different views.
Therefore, PTZ and ePTZ can serve different purposes. PTZ is ideal when physical camera movement is important, while ePTZ is useful when you want flexible framing from a fixed camera.
How to Use ePTZ on the YoloCam S3
Before using ePTZ, make sure your YoloCam S3 and YoloLiv Compose software are up to date.
Then, follow these steps:
