If your YoloBox Extreme charges to a specific percentage — say 39%, 45%, whatever your number is — and then stops going up no matter how long you leave it plugged in, this is almost always a display calibration issue, not a battery defect. Here’s the quick fix.
What’s actually happening
The percentage on screen isn’t a direct battery measurement — it’s a calculated estimate from the battery management chip. Over time, especially if the device stays plugged in most of the time, that estimate drifts. The actual battery is still charging to full voltage; the display just doesn’t reflect it accurately.

The chip recalibrates itself automatically during full charge/discharge cycles. If your device rarely runs on battery, it never gets the reference points it needs, and the drift accumulates.
The fix — 4 steps
- Discharge fully. Use the device on battery only, no external power, until it shuts down automatically. Don’t turn it off manually — let it run all the way down.
- Rest for 30-60 minutes. Leave the device off and unplugged.
- Charge fully. Plug in and charge to 100%. Leave it plugged in for another 30-60 minutes after it reads full.
- Repeat 2-3 times. The chip needs a few complete cycles to fully recalibrate.
By the end of the third cycle, the display should charge to a proper 100% again.
What to expect during recalibration
The percentage may behave erratically during the first cycle — dropping or jumping unexpectedly. That’s normal. It’ll stabilize by cycle 2 or 3.
Runtime estimates during cycle 1 aren’t reliable either. Trust them again by cycle 3.
Preventing it going forward
Run one full discharge cycle every 2-3 months, even if you normally keep the device plugged in. That’s enough to keep the display accurate long-term.
This isn’t specific to YoloBox — every lithium-ion device with a fuel gauge chip (laptops, phones, camera batteries, drones) works this way and benefits from occasional full-cycle recalibration.
When it might actually be a defect
Contact support if any of the following apply:
- Device shuts down suddenly at 30-40% or higher (possible cell imbalance)
- Battery gets hot to the touch during charging
- Runtime is dramatically shorter than when the device was new (30%+ reduction)
- The issue persists after 3 full recalibration cycles
- Any visible swelling or damage on the battery area
FAQ
Will running the battery to 0% damage it?
No. The device shuts down automatically at a safe voltage well above the damage threshold. Occasional full discharge is safe and helps the calibration.
How do I know if I discharged fully?
The device shuts down on its own — you don’t press power. If you turned it off manually before it shut itself down, the chip didn’t hit its 0% reference point, and the cycle won’t complete.
Still having issues?
If you’ve done 3 full recalibration cycles and the display still won’t reach 100%, contact us at contact@yololiv.com or Josh Gately (top-tier support) with:
- Your YoloBox Extreme serial number
- Approximate age of the device
Include those details in the first message and we can diagnose faster.
