Since its launch, YoloBox Extreme has been rapidly evolving through major feature updates and continuous optimizations. Creator Tom Buck — who has been streaming with YoloBox since the very first generation — recently took a deep dive into the massive software upgrade, sharing how it completely transformed his streaming and recording setup.
Here are 7 of his absolute favorite features from this game-changing release.
1. LUT Support on Any Input
Color matching across cameras used to require post-production. Now, you can apply a LUT to any input directly on YoloBox. Tap and hold the input, select your LUT, and adjust the intensity.
Why does this matter? Because mixing camera brands is hard. A Sony and a Canon render color very differently. With LUTs preloaded, you can match them before going live.
One limitation worth noting: LUTs work best in controlled environments. If your lighting or location changes often, a preloaded LUT may not fit the new scene.
2. Full Camera Control for YoloCam (via USB)
This is the feature Tom called “exactly what I wanted.” Connect a YoloCam S3 or S7 via USB, tap and hold the input, and a full camera settings menu appears.
From there, you can adjust:
- Color style, sharpness, contrast, and saturation
- Autofocus
- Shutter speed, ISO, and auto/manual exposure
- White balance — including red and blue offset
- Resolution, frame rate, and even firmware
The white balance offset deserves a special mention. Different sensors lean different directions — some magenta, some green. Being able to correct that per camera makes multi-brand setups far easier to match.
How does it work? YoloBox communicates with the YoloCam directly over USB — the settings change on the camera itself, the same way desktop software would do it. That’s also why the depth of control is exclusive to YoloCams: non-YoloCam USB cameras get frame rate and resolution control, while HDMI inputs get the LUT option.
3. Smarter Comment Management
Comments have been a core YoloBox feature from the start. However, two refinements make them even more usable now.
First, when multistreaming, each platform gets its own comment tab — plus an “All” tab that mixes everything together.
Second, you can now star any comment to favorite it. If your chat moves fast, this ensures you never lose the question you wanted to answer.
4. Viewer Map
This one is as fun as it is practical. When a viewer types “hello from [location]” in the chat, their profile picture appears on a live world map.
The privacy design is thoughtful. Nothing is tracked automatically — viewers choose what to share. Say “hello from the United States” and you land in the middle of the country. Name your exact town, and you show up there. It’s entirely up to the viewer.
You’ll see a heavy CPU usage warning when enabling it. In Tom’s experience, though, CPU never went above 50%, even on long streams.
Beyond the fun factor, it solves a real hosting problem. You can acknowledge viewers from around the world without spending minutes reading greetings aloud. And as Tom points out, seeing five viewers spread across the entire world feels very different from just seeing the number five.
5. Viewer Credits
At the end of a stream, this feature rolls credits of everyone who commented — ordered by how many comments they left. Think of it as a leaderboard meets movie credits.
Additionally, it gives your stream a graceful ending. Viewers get time to wrap up conversations and say goodbye, instead of being cut off mid-chat. One button, zero setup. In Tom’s words, it’s a feature he hasn’t “seen implemented like this anywhere else.”
6. Noise Reduction for Audio Inputs
A speaker settings icon now appears in the audio window. If you’re using the 3.5mm line-in or mic-in, you can enable noise reduction.
It’s simple for now. But for unprocessed mics in less-than-ideal environments, it’s genuinely useful. And it signals something bigger: audio processing is coming to YoloBox, and this is just the start.
7. YoloLiv Dashboard — Bind Accounts from Your Desktop
Tom’s biggest pain point wasn’t on the YoloBox at all. It was typing a long, complex YouTube password on a touchscreen — repeatedly, every time the platform connection needed refreshing.
The Dashboard fixes this. Create your account in a desktop browser, add all your streaming platforms there, and they sync to your YoloBox automatically when you log in. With password managers available on desktop, re-verifying accounts takes seconds instead of minutes.
The result? In Tom’s words, this single change made him stream with YoloBox “more often.”
From Proof of Concept to Professional Tool
Tom’s closing thought says it best. Six years ago, the original YoloBox showed potential but had limitations. Today, these devices run events, schools, churches, and corporate productions. And in some ways, they’ve gone beyond catching up — “there are things that you can now only do with a device like this.”
That’s the value of a platform that keeps evolving. The hardware you bought gets better over time, for free.
